How to Set a Wedding Budget That Works for You: Tips and Tricks

Planning your wedding is potentially one of the most exciting things you’ll do – it’s all about making dreams come true and creating something that you (and your guests) will remember forever.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you won’t come across challenges, and one of the biggest challenges is going to be your budget. If you don’t have one, you’re sure to end up spending far too much, and as spectacular as your wedding might be, it’s also going to be something that causes you a few financial difficulties; that’s not what great memories are made of. With that in mind, here are some tips and tricks to help you set a wedding budget that works for you – read on to find out more.

Make A Realistic Assessment

The first thing you’ll need to do is look at your current income and savings and make a realistic assessment of what you’ve got and what you will have by the time your wedding comes around. It’s only then that you can be sure that your overall budget is correct; guessing at this point will lead to disappointment or mistakes, and that’s never a great way to start when it comes to planning your dream wedding.

List Your Wedding Priorities

There are dozens, perhaps even hundreds, of things you can have at your wedding, and some will be more important than others. Once you know how much you have to spend, it’s time to list out the most important ones because they’re the ones that are non-negotiable. These priorities are going to be different for everyone, but your list might include a wedding venue Wetherby, the dress, catering, the photographer, and so on.

Once you know what you must have at your wedding, you can research the prices – after that, you’ll know what’s left in your budget for any extras and start adding those to the list as well.

Create A Spreadsheet

We know spreadsheets aren’t always the most fun things to work on, but when it comes to your budget, it’s really going to help to have one handy. You can categorise the items you need to spend money on into sections like the wedding venue Wetherby, food and drink, clothing, decorations, etc. Once you know the price of each one, add it to the spreadsheet and have a running total – include your overall budget, and you’ll soon see how much is left and how much you’re spending, keeping you on track and within budget at all times.

Find Discounts

No matter whether you’re running close to (or even a little over) your budget or you’re staying on the right side of it, it’s always a good idea to look for discounts and negotiate with vendors for better prices – you might not find any at all, but equally, it’s entirely possible that you’ll be able to save a little extra.

When it comes to your wedding venue Wetherby, for example, you could explore some different options like a weekday wedding or an off-peak date, for example. These can make the costs much more budget-friendly if the dates work for you and your guests.

Your wedding should be everything you want it to be, but it also needs to be within your budget so you don’t have any regrets in the months or even years afterwards when you’re still trying to pay for it all. Keep things simple and cost-effective, and you’ll have a wonderful time.
